Areas of Interest

Deeptapioca’s audience consists primarily of creative individuals who seek an outlet from daily life in the form of music, literature, and visual arts, both male and female, ages 16-50, who find solace in entertainment in the form of art and events within the community. The demographics are not limited to San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties, however they are the main focus at this point.

Deeptapioca primarily utilizes print media. In addition we provide an
informative and entertaining web presence to support our publication.

Firstly, Deeptapioca is an arts and literary publication where our most important business unit will be the publication itself, as we will focus on the quality and integrity of the articles and artwork we are publishing. Secondly, Deeptapioca.com will maintain a solid web presence where readers may learn more about the company and what it offers, while providing special features that are exclusive to the Internet, such as animation, MP3s, links and a perpetual on-line gallery. Finally, Deeptapioca will establish an intimate staff whose duties will consist of offering design expertise to potential advertisers in order to create the most effective advertisements possible to be published in the magazine. In addition, Deeptapioca’s Media Group will provide a special design package for an individual business’ marketing campaign to increase their visibility in the Bay Area.
The Deeptapioca Media Group currently consists of a staff of individuals who collectively possess a diverse range of expertise. Graphic designers, web-site developers/designers, culinary coordinators, business planners, publishers, and staff writers make up the core of the Deeptapioca Media Group. Our Media Group has been developed to not only provide a truly unique artistic publication, but in addition, provide advertising and design services to clients who seek to increase their visibility through innovative print and electronic media. Think of Deeptapioca as an advertising agency powerhouse that has been rolled into a monthly artistic publication.
Deeptapioca combines all genres of art into one publication leaving the doors wide open for all artists to express themselves with uninhibited freedom. We maintain a consistent table of contents that includes events, prose, culinary arts, photography, painting, illustration, poetry and music. Artists who express themselves through other genres of art such as sculpture, industrial design, fashion design, etc. are encouraged to submit their work to Deeptapioca where we can showcase these art forms. At Deeptapioca we understand that there is an immense resource of creative expression around us and we intend to explore this resource and ultimately bring its value to the masses.

Deeptapioca’s main strength is a highly motivated and passionate staff. The core executive staff at Deeptapioca is working hard towards seeing their dreams materialize. Each member of the executive team possesses a deep love for visual and literary arts. This explicit enthusiasm for the arts sets Deeptapioca apart from its main competitors in that the executive team is driven to encourage its readers to develop the same creative excitement.
Deeptapioca also possesses the privilege of a thoroughly diverse and experienced executive team. Each member brings a specific expertise to the team from graphic design, to web technologies and business consulting, culinary arts to photography, illustration to journalism and creative writing, the possibilities for excellence are great. Each member also possesses an innovative and creative quality thus constantly pushing the boundaries.

We realize that Deeptapioca is paving the way for a revolutionary technique of presenting artistic material, which could prove to be a weakness. Although our staff’s individual expertise is impressive, our goals in publishing will present unique and unknown challenges.
Deeptapioca’s founding team consists of only five people. Because the team is so small and the task of publishing a magazine is so large, Deeptapioca faces a compelling challenge.

Since there is a strong interest in a free arts and literary publication in the market it indicates strong promise for Deeptapioca’s success. The majority of arts and literary publications take the form of web-zines while the few print arts and literary publications that exist are expensive and difficult to find. Deeptapioca sees its position in the market to be somewhat of a hybrid between popular independently published papers (San Francisco Bay Guardian, SFWeekly, Metro, Good Times, etc.) and well-respected arts and literary magazines. Deeptapioca offers the benefits of popular independent papers such as cutting edge liberal literature and a Bay Area event calendar, but in addition provides a unique twist to the conventional free publication with our method of presenting local creative expression.
The post-September-11th American community in general has become an entertainment-seeking audience. Because Americans are now searching for hope in the world after witnessing evil in its worst form, Deeptapioca has been given a great opportunity to deviate from the conventional news publication. With the rejection of the conventional news media our audience is now seeking talent that is visible, tangible and audible. Deeptapioca will bring artistic creativity to Bay Area residents which will remind them that artistic talent does exists and is within reach.
San Francisco is world renowned for its status as an art mecca, and it attracts the most creative individuals from across the world. During the climax of the dotcom era, an enormous amount of artists were driven out of the City into surrounding cities in search of lower rental costs. Due to this mass relocation of artists from San Francisco into San Jose, Santa Cruz, and the East Bay, new artistic communities are forming in these exact locations. Deeptapioca has a substantial opportunity to tend to these newly developed creative populations and intends to unite artists from all across the Bay Area in order to strengthen this newly born artistic community.

Due to the current economic environment, Deeptapioca anticipates difficulty in finding visionary investors to assist the publication in its initial developmental stages. Although the publication does not demand large monetary assistance, finding investors may be an arduous task.
Although limited, Deeptapioca’s main competitors offer a threat to the publication. Publications such as the San Francisco Bay Guardian, SFWeekly, and Metro are trusted by the market and posses strong customer loyalty. It will be difficult to obtain a large market share in an industry where consumers show an obvious preference for one publication over the other.
Deeptapioca is also proposing a new idea to the market by combining the luxuries of the conventional independent publication while highly depending on the submissions of local artists and writers. Because the market has never seen a publication quite like Deeptapioca, we run the risk of uncertainty, in that the market may not embrace the publication with the intensity we hope it will.
As mentioned above, Deeptapioca’s content will depend highly on the submission of local artists and writers. If artists and writers do not express interest in the magazine immediately, the content of the publication will be minimal, thus offering only a small taste of what Deeptapioca promises to provide.

How will Deeptapioca transform the media industry?
Deeptapioca brings local artists into the spotlight, showcasing sub-pop artists, and showing the media that it doesn’t take a celebrity to be published and syndicated.

What does Deeptapioca do that no one else is doing right now?
Deeptapioca is a diverse artistic playground for every type of creative person. Offering a free publication that envelops the innovative talent of the entire Bay Area.

How will Deeptapioca design a new forefront for the artists and musicians in our economy/environment?
Deeptapioca provides a platform for artists to share their inspiration via our web site and our printed publication. Deeptapioca will unite the art scene with the artist and the reader through links and cooperative ad space for artists of all genres.

Originally, Deeptapioca was the name of an intimate poetry-reading club that congregated weekly. This intimate group of literary enthusiasts gradually transformed into a large community of writers and artists that met frequently to share ideas, inspiration, and comradery. David Brissenden, Editor in Chief decided that it was time to collectively channel the excitement of each artist into a publication that could expose their talents to the creative world.
The core staff of five individuals acts as the heart and soul of Deeptapioca. The submissions of local artists and writers complete Deeptapioca and offer a truly unique and diverse outlook to the publication.

Deeptapioca’s financial contributors consist of Bay Area businesses who seek Deeptapioca as a medium for promotional advertising. Other financial contributors include the founding team and potential venture capitalist or angel investors.
Deeptapioca’s content contributors consist of staff writers, contributing writers, and submissions from local artists.

Deeptapioca values the importance of creativity manifested through artistic expression. We view art as inspiration and are committed to promoting and showcasing the many different forms of art found throughout the Bay Area. We hope to give closet artists as well as studio artists the recognition they deserve by publishing their hard work.
Deeptapioca feels a particular obligation to the growing creative community in the Bay Area since they are a particular population that has lived in the shadows of an area associated only with high tech innovations. We believe that there is a treasure hidden in the Bay Area in the form of artistic beauty and we fully intend to inform the masses of the artistic innovation that lies right before them.
